CRiMP-TECH is dedicated to serving the connector tooling needs of the electronics industry. We, therefore, top off our product package with a wide variety of installing and removal tools. Although we supply both plastic and metal tools, we recommend the use of the metal tools because of their durability. When used properly they are more cost effective in that they withstand thousands of contact insertion and removal cycles. The trend to all metal tools is being actively encouraged by most departments of the U.S. Government. DMC installing and removal tools are of proven high quality and reliability. We have a myriad of tools for all connector applications, including typical rear and front release retention methods found in today's connectors.

We do not recommend the use of plastic tools for repetitive work with one exception NASA Standard, NASA-STD-8739.4 states the following in section 13.2-1: "In all instances, non-metal contact insertion and removal tools shall be used to prevent damage to connectors, contacts, or conductors." The CAUTION below the 13.2-1 statement acknowledges that it will be likely one will have to discard many damaged tools and account for all the pieces. But damage to connectors, contacts, and conductors must be prevented at all cost. This is especially important in manned flight applications, satellite work, and the expensive military applications of today. All NASA, NASA contractors, and U.S. military contractors follow this standard. |
